Nativity Scene made from Chocolate

The town of Rute looks back on a long tradition in the making of Christmas sweets. At some point, the idea came up to make a Christmas scene out of chocolate. Since then every year in the time before Christmas, a chocolate nativity scene attracts thousands of visitors to the charming town in the south of the province of Cordoba. Meanwhile, this sweet scene is one of the largest tourist attractions in the area.

Covering as many as 65 square meters and being made of about 1,600 kilograms of chocolate and about 50 kilograms of fondant, the chocolate crib is considered to be the largest in the world. It is the result of months of craftsmanship by up to seven pastry chefs of the company Galleros Artesanos Ruteña.

The sweet scenery is dedicated to various topics around its central elements representing Easter, fantasy and Christmas. There are fabulous castles, villages with dwarfs and elves and even a candy river. This year's chocolate scene is the largest ever created.

In addition to the nativity scene, in neighboring rooms replicas of three Andalusian processions and some famous personalities such as Rocío Jurado, Pope Francisco or members of the royal family of Spain can be seen. For the little ones, there are two chocolate figures: Bob Espoja and Peppa Pig.
