Luque - Bunker del Alamillo Site

Found not far from the town of Luque, the bunker complex del Alamillo is a sight one would hardly expect here - an artillery position built from reinforced concrete, which dates from the time of the Spanish Civil War and is reminiscent of a dark chapter in the country's more recent history.

Together with a second position (Bunker del Aceituno), which was built on an opposite hill, the facility served to protect the country road between Córdoba and Granada, which ran between the two bunkers, and a railway line. The street is now the national highway N-432, which remains an important link between the two monumental cities, while the rail line today is the Vía Verde del Aceite bicycle trail.

The artillery position del Alamillo consists of a two-story central unit, which served as a command center, and two upstream machine gun nests. From the central structure, the upper floor of which is equipped with loopholes in all directions, two fifty-meter-long tunnels lead to the machine gun nests.

The entire complex is found amidst an olive grove. It is not developed for touristic access. However is is easily accessible by a short walk through the grove.
