Fuensanta Funfair (Velá de la Fuensanta) 2020

The Fuensanta Fair, known as the Feria de la Fuensanta or simply referred to by the locals as La Velá, is a big folk festival celebrated in Córdoba around the 8th of September each year. This day is a holiday in the city in honor of the local patron saint, the Virgin of Fuensanta.

The Velá de la Fuensanta looks back on a centuries-old tradition; once the festival was known as the Feria de Otoño (Autumn Festival).

Traditionally, the fair is held around the Fuensanta church; exceptions were made only in the years 1804 and 1835, when the Feria had to be relocated to the nearby Plaza de la Magdalena because of outbreaks of epidemics - a problem that fortunately no longer bothers anyone today.

The tradition of buying small, painted ceramic bells at various stalls has remained the same. These are only available during the Velá de la Fuensanta and therefore much sought after by visitors to the festival.

For the youngest guests various rides are being offered, while the elderly are spoiled in various marquees culinary: There are, in addition to traditional dishes of the region, also tapas, wine and a popular fat pastry (churros) with chocolate.
