Bullfight Museum
As its name adumbrates, Museo Taurino de Córdoba is dedicated to the traditional Andalusian art of bullfight. Harbored by a 16th century mansion, known as Casa de las Bulas, the museum is found at Maimonides Square, right in the heart of Cordoba’s famous Jewish Quarter.
Acquired by the city in the 1950s and opened as a craftsmanship museum, the house - according to the importance of bullfight at that time - gradually shifted its focus to the world of bullfight. It took not long until the exhibition was exclusively dedicated to everything that has to do with this controversial tradition.
Closed in 2005 for extensive restortion efforts and moderization of the exhibit, the museum has been back to public since March 2014.
Since then, the museum has six halls offering a full insight in the bullfight tradition, including comprehensive information on the bull and its life. Of course, visitors will learn everything about the actual art of bullfighting, the history of that tradition in Cordoba, including places where fights had been held in the past, as well as famous personalities. So visitors may get in touch with the so-called “Five Caliphs of the Bullfight” Rafael Molina "Lagartijo", Rafael Guerra "Guerrita", Rafael González "Machaquito", Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez "Manolete" and Manuel Benítez "El Cordobés".
Original outfits, countless photographs and many personal items of famous bullfighters make the exhibit complete.
