Mezquita Belltower Visit

Since November 2014, Cordoba has another highlight worth visiting: The Mezquita belltower reopened to the public after being closed for 24 years. Now locals and visitors may climb up to the top of the tower and enjoy wonderful vistas over the Mezquita itself, the Jewish Quarter and the entire city.

Built under the rule of Abd al-Rahman III., the tower originally was a minaret. After the Christians reconquered the city in 1236, the minaret -- as well as the Mezquita -- was hallowed and converted into a belltower.

Visitors will be able to climb up until they reach a height of about 40 meters (130 ft). From here, the highest point far and wide, visitors have spectacular views. But this should not be the only reason for a tower visit. While getting up visitors can discover remains from the 10th century minaret and feel the breath of history.

Tours start at the top and at the bottom of the hour. Scheduled hours are shown below. There is a limit of 20 attendees per tour. Admission is two euros per person. Tickets for the belltower visit do not admit access to the actual Mosque and Cathedral and vice versa.
