Taberna Regina is ranked one of the oldest taverns in town. It is located at homonymous Regina Square (Plaza Regina) in immediate vicinity of several of the so called Fernandinian Churches such as San Andrés, San Pedro, Santiago y La Magdalena.
The tavern was founded in 1904 by Manuel Sobrino and later managed by his son. Since 1984, Rafael Seoane Sobrino had been conducting the business. Today Manuel Herrera Cuevas is managing the eatery. So to speak he grew up behind the tavern’s bar.
Taberna Regina’s cuisine is based on traditional Cordoba style Tapas. Worth mentioning are Patatas Bravas (spicy roast potatoes with hot tomato sauce), pork in sherry sauce, braised oxtail or the so called Flamenquín, a breaded pork roll stuffed with Serrano ham, just to name a few examples. The wine served in Taberna Regina comes from Bodegas Gracia Hermanos Winery and includes brands such as Corredera, Criadera, Mª del Valle, Pedro Ximénez.
Among Taberna Regina’s regulars are the silversmiths from the neighborhood and their friends and neighbors. Also travelers are seen regularly. The decoration of the eatery features Cordoba and bullfighting pictures.
The tavern has access to the house’s patio. Here and on the terrace in front of the building guests may enjoy Taberna Regina’s delicious tapas in warm summer nights.
