This Tavern, harbored in a typical old town house from the 19th century in the north of the historic Cordoba center, is said to be the “birth place” of the traditional Cordoba oxtail, one of the favor dishes in town.
Anyway, the tavern is very popular with the bullfighting tradition. So one of the dining rooms is permanently reserved for the “Peña taurina José Luis Torres” association and the “Tertulia taurina Tercio de Quites” regulars’ table.
The tavern looks back at several decades of history. In October of 1941, the grandfather of the current owner purchased the building and opened a tavern known as “Casa Paco Acedo”. It is located just off the famous Calahorra Tower. In the 1940s this area was kind of industrialized. The tavern was a meeting point not only for workers from the near “Carbonell” oil mill and the erstwhile slaughterhouse, but also for a number of charcoal merchants. Since all of them took a special interest in bullfighting, these regulars, in order to honor the famous Manolete bullfighter, founded the Friends of Manolete Association. Even today, one of the tables is dedicated to this association.
Today, the founders grandson is going to continue the tavern. In 1997, the establishment underwent an extensive reconstruction paying attention to preserve the traditional charm and atmosphere. Since then, the tavern has been featuring an extensive wine list, as well as a number of lusty dishes such as partridge with broad beans or venison.
Naturally, the tavern serves the traditional Cordoba oxtail, as well.
