Taberna La Montillana C/ San Álvaro 5, 14001 Cordoba
|
This tavern is situated adjacent to the central San Miguel Square. Serving guests on three floors, the eatery belongs to the touristic consortium “Tabernas de Córdoba”. According to notes of Cordoba annalist Francisco Solana, the tavern has been existing since the beginnings of the 1940s.
La Montillana’s menu list features dishes typical for the Cordoba area, including traditional Salmorejo, oxtail, Flamenquín, eggplants, suckling pig and codfish. There are different daily recommendations, depending on the respective season.
The first floor harbors a hall with capacity for 50 - 60 guests. The second floor has another hall, which accommodates smaller gatherings. Both halls have a bathroom and a wardrobe. Large windows allow perfect views of the San Miguel Church with the large rosette in the facade.
La Montillana’s decoration reflects the bullfight tradition. Among other items, the life-sized painting „Picador“, created by local artisan Fernando García Herrera, is impressive. Also worth mentioning are the works of painter López Canito, including paintings depicting the so-called five caliphs of bullfight – Lagartijo, Machaquito, El Guerra, Manolete und El Cordobés.
This tavern also has an extensive wine list. Guests can choose from more than 50 wines.
