The El Sótano Tapas Bar and Tavern may be found under the so called Arco Alto (High Arch) at the famous Corredera Square. The family owned restaurant business has been welcoming guests since 1960. Today, the sun of the founder serves locals and tourists with traditional Andalusian meals and tapas snacks.
On the site where El Sótano is situated today, in 1868 the first bar at Corredera Square opened its doors. At that time, the square was used as bullfighting arena. It was the economic and cultural center of Cordoba. Around the square, under shady arcades, a number of small shops and craftsman’s establishments were located. Even today the Corredera Square is a busy place in town and scene of several occasions, including a medieval market spectacle in January and Flamenco performances throughout the summer.
Corredera Square ranks among the most beautiful places in town. From there, you should see it - and you should not miss a stop at El Sótano on that occasion.
With open-air capacity for 96 guests the El Sótano tapas bar is great for enjoying one of the events to occur on the square or even to marvel at the square’s prettiness. Inside the building there is space for another 70 persons.
El Sótano tapas bar and tavern offers a rich menu list comprising so called Tapas snacks, as well as complete meals. All dishes are homemade. The house’s specialties include a variety of omelets and famous Cordoba style Salmorejo, a cold served tomato soup.
The buidling also harbors a guesthouse that is an ideal alternative for backpack tourists and trampers.
