One of the most traditional and most beautiful sites in the city of Cordoba is the so called Corredera Square (Plaza de la Corredera) Located in the heart of historic downtown, the square features architectural elements as we know it from Plazas Mayores of Madrid or Salamanca.
Thus, Corredera Square is absolutely unparalleled throughout the region of Andalusia. Formerly the site where bullfights were held, today the square is a popular meeting point for Cordobans and visitors.
Numerous attractions and some of the city’s most remarkable museums are to be found in immediate vicinity of the square, so that Corredera Square is a great place for having a rest while strolling through the city and its sights.
You may find a number of bars and cafes being nestled under Corredera’s beautiful arcades. One of these eateries is Mari Paz - one of the best places to have a lusty tapa while observing the vibrant life right on the square.
For more than a dozen years, Mari Paz has been serving Churros and Jeringos (olive oil based pastry), accompanied by a good cup of hot chocolate in the early morning hours.
Today, Mari Paz also serves lunch and dinner. Among the specialties of the house are Salmorejo, Patatas bravas (deep-fried potatoes with spicy tomato sauce), deer in sauce, prawns with garlic sauce and a large varity of warm sandwiches and tapas. Naturally, the house offers first class wines to accompany whatever you wish to enjoy.
The open air terrace in front of Mari Paz, right on Corredera Square, has space for 80 to 100 guests and is a great place to meet with friends and have a drink and some tapas. A great experience around the year!
