Inquisition Museum (formerly Galería de la Tortura)
Being conveniently situated in the heart of Córdoba’s historic Judería Quarter, this museum should be part of every sightseeing tour throughout the city. This exhibition takes you on a journey through one of Spain’s and Europe’s darkest chapters - the massive use of torture to enforce confessions between 13th and 19th centuries.
Formerly known as Galería de la Tortura – translated as Exhibition of Torture – this museum presents an extensive collection of authentic torture instruments. On their way through various halls, visitors get an impression of how the process of “finding the truth” worked at medieval time: from detention and accusation of the suspect to threatening with and executing torture to enforcing of the confession and finally to the proclamation and execution of the sentence.
