Torre de la Calahorra
Located on the far side of the Roman Bridge, this tower is the oldest defense building in town. It was erected by the Moors in order to prevent the city from being attacked. In 1369, Calahorra Tower underwent massive reconstruction and reinforcement measures, ordered by Henry II of Trastamara. He added a third tower making the Calahorra Tower some kind of a fortress and giving it its current appearance.

Today, not only Calahorra Tower’s impressive appearance attracts Cordoba visitors. It is also the inside of the building featuring a museum which is of particular interest.
The museum collects, preserves, and exhibits artifacts and documents of the rich Cordoban history which is characterized by the peaceful coexistence of Jews, Muslims, and Christians over centuries. It also presents the early height of science, culture, and engineering that gave Andalusia a leading position centuries ago.
A multimedia show which is available in English makes the stories the museum has to tell a concrete and enjoyable experience.
A model of the Mezquita mosque in its original state and a number of documents and pictures round off this informative journey through Cordoba’s history.
