Parks and Gardens
Gardens of the Royal Fortress Discover a place of fanciful horticulture. These gardens are among the most picturesque places in town. Therefore, the gardens are considered the Royal Fortress’ major attraction. Large bassins and fanciful fountains, lovely arranged palm and orange trees, and an uncountable number of blooms invite to pause and relax. Although situated almost in the center of the vital and pulsing city, the gardens are a perfect place to get away from all.
Botanical Garden The Cordoba Botanical Garden is one of the largest parks of the city making it one of its lungs and offering a peaceful respite from busy action in town. Thanks to its tree populations and its location adjacent to the Guadalquivir river, this park provides an enjoyable refreshing climate.
The garden was incorporated in 1980 to develop and maintain collections of plants for purposes of education, research, conservation and pleasure.
The garden is home to an ethnobotanical museum which is dedicated to the relations between human beings and plants. This museum is the only of its kind throughout Spain.
People can hike natural trails between large collections of worth seeing Mediterranean plants. Also, a number of plants are shown under the roofs of a greenhouse representing a variety of different micro climates.
The Botanic Garden spans over an area of about 5.5 hectares (13.6 acres) and is cut into eight different theme areas, including a tree area, a rose garden, a botanical school, and a section dedicated to Canary plants. The park also features several offers for blind visitors, including a garden of flavor and Braille descriptions.
The Botanic Garden is a public organization which is directed jointly by the University of Cordoba and the municipality. Scientists of the university manage the park.
Cordoba Zoo The Cordoba Zoo is a perfect place to learn more about the Andalusian wildlife. Visitors may view a collection of animals that live in southern Spain and Africa.
